The image above shows him scoring for us against Spurs at White Hart Lane in 1950 and for England, against Italy at the Stade Communal in Florence in 1952.
In the dressing room after England had been well and truly beaten by Hungary, Tom Finney recalls that Ivor quipped, “it’s the first time I’ve come off the pitch with a sunburned tongue!”
When his playing days ended he coached for a while before turning to football journalism – an occupation that lasted a further 45 years. Our ex-player Bobby Park knows him well, having spent a lot of time with him in the press box at Brunton Park covering Carlisle’s home games.
Ivan is now 95 years old. Fantastic!!
